2024 Rogers Scholar Jared Lucas of Lee County completes community service project
March 04, 2025

Building a batting cage (pictured right) can be challenging and hard work. Just ask 2024 Rogers Scholar Jared Lucas of Lee County.
He built a 70-foot-long batting cage, constructed from donated pipe, for his high school baseball team. “This project was so important to me because I knew the major need and impact it would be for my team,” he said. “I also knew the significance of completing my Rogers Scholars program, so that also added a whole other level of importance to serving my community through this project.”
Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars program must plan and complete a community service project within one year after finishing the program.
