Consulting the locals here are some of the best underrated tourist spots in Kentucky to ensure that won’t happen to you again. From museums to natural beauty, there is plenty to love about Kentucky, so get ready for another adventure where all the locals are saying are must-see places.

1. Red River Gorge
If you are looking for natural beauty, many people prefer the rugged mountainous landscape of eastern Kentucky as opposed to the leveled western plains of the Blue Grass State. Perhaps one of the most varied landscapes can be found in the Red River Gorge area. This geological wonderland is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts with multiple glistening waterfalls, epic natural bridges, unique rock formations, and miles of hiking trails. Take a simple drive or dive deep into the wilderness to truly experience this fantastic part of Kentucky. There is also a long, single-lane, ancient-looking tunnel to drive through you simply must see when in the area.

2. Carter Caves State Resort Park - Olive Hill
I am always on the lookout for hikes with multiple points of interest, and if you are like me, then plan a trip to Carter Caves State Resort Park. Similar to Red River Gorge, this park is filled with magnificent rock formations from epic cave openings, tunnels, and bridges to explore. A hike at Carter Caves isn’t your typical jaunt through the forest, but prepare for some of the most unique setpieces across the miles of trails available for adventuring in the park.

3. Jefferson Memorial Forest - Fairdale
Located just outside of Louisville, this wilderness area is a quiet retreat for those who call the city home.  Jefferson Memorial Forest offers hiking trails, equestrian paths, paddling adventures, and much more. You can visit this spot for an afternoon of exploration or bring your camping gear and pitch a tent for the night. 

4. The Mahamad Ali Center - Louisville
Cassius Marcellus Clay is considered to be one of the greatest boxers of all time, and being a native of Louisville, Kentucky, would be where you can find the museum dedicated to his life. The Muhammad Ali Center is a walk through the life of this accomplished athlete, from his personal beliefs to his victories in the ring. Sit back and watch some of the best fights from Ali, or test your own boxing skills in the interactive training room. 

5. Shawnee Park - Louisville
Shawnee Park is a large urban green space in Louisville that hugs the banks of the Ohio River. Sit and watch the riverboats, have a picnic with your family, or go for a stroll along the walking paths. Kids can play on the playground or challenge someone to a game of chess, no matter how you use the park, this is a great natural break from city life.
