According to records, two people from Frenchburg, Kentucky, were arrested Sept. 2 after authorities allegedly found 6.1 grams of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Smith Street, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, identified as Joshua Elmer Clemons, 31, and a passenger, Kayla Renee Thompson, 27, were both charged.

Clemons faces charges of failure to produce an insurance card, one headlight, possession of drug paraphernalia, and first-degree, first-offense trafficking in a controlled substance. Thompson was charged with first-degree, first-offense trafficking in a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both were lodged in the Montgomery County Regional Jail.

Deputy Jeremy Purvis stated in a uniform citation that he was patrolling the area of Spencer Pike at 10:34 p.m. when he spotted a 2012 Ford Fusion allegedly operating with one headlight. After running the registration, dispatch reportedly advised him to verify proof of insurance.

Purvis wrote that upon approaching the vehicle, Clemons and Thompson appeared visibly nervous and were sweating profusely. Deputy Cas Grass was then called to perform a “free air sniff” with his K9 Thor, which allegedly gave a positive indication of narcotics in the vehicle.

Authorities searched the car and reportedly found a small, white-and-green floral-pattern card wallet in the driver’s seat and center console containing two small blue baggies and one clear baggie with suspected methamphetamine, along with multiple other used small baggies. The suspected meth weighed a total of 6.1 grams while packaged, according to the citation.

Clemons allegedly told authorities the narcotics had been planted.
