Slone Graduates Trooper Academy

A Lee County man joined the ranks of the Kentucky State Police on January 30th

Lee County resident, Kaleb Slone, was among the thirty-two officers who graduated as members of Cadet Class 106.

Perspective officers reported for training on August 10 after undergoing an extensive background check and preliminary testing. The cadets completed twenty-four weeks of “rigorous academic instruction and hands-on training” in preparation for their field assignments.

Following graduation, Trooper Slone was assigned to Post 8 in Morehead. Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman made the official pronouncement at the graduation as she spoke at the event in Frankfort on Friday., January 30th

“Today, these 32 new troopers join a storied 77-year history of excellence and service by the Kentucky State Police,” Lt. Gov. Coleman said. “All of Kentucky is thankful for the service of the over 1,800 employees who make up the agency, including more than 800 troopers and officers, and their dedication to protecting our people.” Coleman added that she joined the “entire commonwealth in praying for your safety and success.”

According to the Kentucky State Police spokesperson, the new troopers endured more than 1,000 hours of classroom and field study in subjects such as constitutional law, juvenile and traffic law, use of force, weapons training, defensive tactics, first aid, high speed vehicle pursuit, criminal investigation, computer literacy, hostage negotiations, evidence collection, radio procedures, search and seizure, crash investigation, drug identification, traffic control, crowd control, armed robbery response, electronic crimes, sex crimes, hate crimes, domestic violence, bomb threats, and hazardous materials.

The Kentucky State Police Cadet Training Academy will begin training the next class of troopers when they report on May 17.
