Wolfe County Search and Rescue divers searched Wolfe Lake over the weekend after a man using a metal detector discovered dog tags near the water’s edge that belonged to Jacob Michael Fox, a Beattyville man who has been missing for more than three years.
The discovery prompted authorities to investigate whether the tags could provide a new lead in the case. Police determined the dog tags belonged to Fox, who was 24 years old when he disappeared on July 1, 2023.
According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), Fox was last seen in front of the Merigold Apartments in Beattyville on July 1, 2023. Family members have said Fox left his home that Saturday and was later seen near the apartment complex. He has not been heard from since.
Authorities said there was no evidence connecting Fox to Wolfe Lake beyond the discovery of the dog tags.
Despite that, search crews entered the lake Saturday morning in hopes of finding additional evidence and providing Fox’s family with answers. Divers spent hours searching the lake but did not locate anything else related to the case.
Fox’s disappearance has remained an ongoing concern for his family, friends and law enforcement officials.
Fox is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. He has blonde hair, blue eyes and gauged ear piercings.
He has several distinguishing tattoos, including two black birds on his chest, an “A” inside a circle on his knee, a cross on his right thigh, a 3D fox on his right bicep and a spider web on his left elbow.
At the time of his disappearance, Fox was reportedly wearing a T-shirt, black jeans and black-and-white tennis shoes. He may have been carrying a backpack and wearing a white seashell necklace.
Family members describe Fox as a beloved son, brother and friend who is deeply missed. A reward is being offered for information leading to his safe return, and his loved ones continue to seek answers about what happened to him.
Anyone who has seen Jacob Michael Fox or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact law enforcement.
