BEREA, Ky. — An Eastern Kentucky nonprofit has reached a milestone in its push to reduce energy costs and promote clean energy across the region.

The Mountain Association, which operates offices in Berea, Hazard, and Prestonsburg, announced Monday that it has facilitated 100 solar installations throughout Eastern Kentucky. The 100th project was recently completed at the Red River Gorge Visitor Center, which also added new electric vehicle charging stations alongside its solar panels.

According to the organization, the installations represent a combined $7.5 million in lifetime energy savings for small businesses, nonprofits, and local governments across the region.

“For more than a decade, our energy team has been helping organizations find critical savings,” the Mountain Association said in a statement. The group offers energy audits, financing, technical assistance, and grant application support to help offset the high cost of energy in Appalachian communities.

The nonprofit partners with small businesses, faith groups, homeowners, and local governments alike to lower utility bills while expanding access to renewable energy.
