56th District Tournament

The postseason opened on a tough note for the Lee County Lady Kats Monday night as they fell to the Estill County, 60-40, in the first round of the 56th District Tournament at Heber Dunaway Gymnasium.

Hosting this year’s tournament, the Lady Kats hoped home-court energy would provide a spark. A supportive crowd filled the stands, but Estill County came out aggressive on both ends of the floor and set the tone early.

Estill County established control in the first quarter, pushing the pace and converting in transition to build an early lead. Lee County battled to settle into its offense, working for quality looks and fighting on the boards, but Estill’s defensive pressure disrupted passing lanes and forced difficult shots.

By halftime, Estill County had stretched their advantage to double digits. Lee County showed flashes of momentum in the third quarter, stringing together defensive stops and attacking the basket to cut into the deficit. However, each time the Lady Kats threatened to close the gap, Estill responded with timely shooting and strong inside play.

In the final period, Estill continued to execute efficiently, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and limiting Lee County’s scoring runs. Despite the Lady Kats’ effort and determination down the stretch, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

With the 60-40 victory, Estill County advances in the district tournament, while the Lady Kats see their postseason run come to an end on their home floor.

Though the loss marks a disappointing finish, Lee County’s season included moments of growth and resilience that will serve as a foundation moving forward. Monday night may not have ended the way they hoped, but the Lady Kats’ fight and heart were evident until the final buzzer.
