Bert Edward Smith, 93, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Beattyville, KY, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at UK Good Samaritan Hospital. He was a resident of Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, KY for the last seven years.
Bert and his wife, Nancye, moved to Lexington in 1994, to be closer to family.
Bert was the youngest of three boys, and the son of Emmett Smith and Katie Price Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, his parents, and his siblings.
Bert was a proud veteran of the Air Force and served his country for four years during the Korean War. He loved collecting and trading watches, guns, and knives.
He was a devoted husband, father and Papaw. Bert is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Steve – deceased), and son Emmett (Leesa). He was blessed with five grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Ben Bentley (Lauren), Brandon Bentley (Mallory), Brooke Bentley, Cole Smith (Leah), and Brad Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Claire, James Bentley and Lyla Smith.
Bert was a member of Beattyville Christian Church and Hillcrest Baptist Church in Lexington.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, November 21, 2025, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
