According to Powell County Search & Rescue, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at approximately 4:00PM, their team, along with Powell County Emergency Medical Services, was dispatched to a call at Whittleton Arch. Initial reports stated an individual had fallen an estimated 40 feet from the top of Whittleton Arch down to the rocks below. A hasty team accompanied PCEMS to assess the patient’s condition.
According to Powell County Search & Rescue, while alert and oriented, it became readily apparent the patient’s condition was critical.
Personnel from Lee County Search & Rescue, Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department, and Kentucky State Parks arrived on scene to assist and expedite the carry out.
The patient was transported to Middlefork Fire Department to be flown to UK hospital via Air Methods Mount Sterling.
According to Powell County Search & Rescue, they received an update that the hiker had succumbed to his injuries while at UK.
