S.F. Thomas Dies in Hospital - The Beattyville Enterprise, Thursday, October 14, 1948

Sebree F. Thomas, 66, died at 5:20 Wednesday morning t the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington. He was stricken ill at his home in Beattyville Tuesday and was admitted to the hospital shortly before he died.
     Mr. Thomas had been very prominent in the oil and gas industry for more than 45 years, and up until a few weeks ago had made his home in Lexington =m and for the last five years had been owner and manager of the S.F. Thomas Oil Company with holding in Lee County and formerly the Pyramid Oil Company.
     He was born in Harrison County June 21, 19882, a son of the late William H. and Alice Moreland Thomas. After attending schools in Harrison and Nicholas Counties, he graduated from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind. He was associated with Standard Oil of Louisiana and later with the Ohio Oil Company and oil companies of Texas and Oklahoma. While with the Cumberland Gasoline company, Mr. Thomas instigated the first gasoline plant in Kentucky.
     He lived in Lexington since 1940 up to two months ago. He was a member of the Parks Methodist Church and was an active Mason in Lodge No. 500 in Nicholas County.
     His survivors include his wife, Mr. Gladys Terman Thomas; two sons Paul T. and James R., both of Lexington; one sister and six brothers.
     The body was removed to Kerr Brothers, Lexington, for funeral, Friday afternoon at two o’clock with Rev. Gerstle Haggard, Parks Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carlisle Cemetery.
