Rep. Wesley Recommends Speed Limit Reduction on Natural Bridge Road
September 05, 2024
Representative Bill Wesley sent a letter to the Transportation Department District 10 recommending that the speed limit on Natural Bridge Road in Powell County be reduced from 55 mph to 35 mph or 45 mph. Ultimately, the Transportation Cabinet will make the final decision.
“I strongly support the Merchants, Business, and Property Owners request for a reduction in the speed limit on Natural Bridge Road,” said Wesley. “I would personally like to see the speed limit decreased to 35 mph since this area has become an exceedingly popular tourist destination.”
Reducing the speed limit on Natural Bridge Road would increase safety for the community members and tourists along State Highway 11. Many businesses have parking alongside this road, which makes it difficult for customers to pull in and out. Over the years, many wrecks have occurred as a result.

“While I owned a business along this road, I personally witnessed many accidents and can attest to how dangerous it is to pull in and out from businesses along this road,” said Wesley. “I believe that decreasing the speed limit on this road would be very beneficial and would increase the safety for our tourists and community members. Our district will not be neglected.”
A healthy Lee County requires great community news.
