Cherchel Edward Barker

Cherchel Edward Barker, 101, widower of Anna Vivian Spencer Barker, resident of Donalds, SC, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his home. Born August 18, 1923, in Fillmore, KY, he was a son of the late Keen Barker and Audry Combs Barker and was a graduate of Gleneden Christian High School. He was a US Army World War II Veteran, having served as a combat medic in the 158th Infantry Battalion, with Patton’s 3rd Army Division. Cherchel saw action on D-Day on Omaha Beach and fought through France, including the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany and into Czechoslovakia. He retired from General Motors after nearly 31 years of service.
He attended Blue Grass Pike Baptist Church in Danville, KY, and Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood. Surviving are his companion and caretaker, Judy Knight; three sisters, Pauline Pennington, Oneida Holloway and Alta Whittaker, all of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside services with Military Honors was held on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at Moore Family Cemetery in Fillmore, KY with Bro. Mike Spencer officiating. Newnam in charge of arrangements.
