SAME NAME DIFFERENT COUNTY: Woman charged after stealing $100,000+ from Lee County Schools

March 24, 2025

According to authorities, a former Lee County, South Carolina Schools employee was arrested after being accused of embezzling nearly $200,000 from Lee County Schools while working there. It seems that Allred allegedly used her role overseeing payroll to put money into her own accounts, and then altered records to cover it up.

Authorities say that 36-year-old Jordan Marie Allred of Sanford faces one count of embezzlement.

In a statement read at a School Board meeting this week, Board Chair Sherry Lynn Womack said the district discovered a payroll discrepancy on March 13th, and immediately launched an investigation and contacted law enforcement. Womack said Allred was terminated the next day.

On Wednesday, March  19th, the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor announced an investigation into the school system is underway, focused on potential misappropriation of funds.

Allred was released on a $250,000 bond and is set to make her first court appearance on Thursday.

All are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
