Dr. M. Yvonne Bishop Shoemaker
Maxine Yvonne Bishop Shoemaker of LaGrange, Kentucky, died January 25, 2025, in Louisville, Ky, at age 89. Yvonne was born in Owsley County Kentucky to Nora Lee Young Bishop and Roy Abel Bishop.
She completed an A.S. degree in Home Economics and Science at Cumberland College, a B.S in Vocational Home Economics from the University of Louisville, an M.Ed in Home Economics Education from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD in Home Economics Education and Adult Education from The Ohio State University.
Yvonne taught home economics to high school students in school systems in North Columbia City, IN; Waggener High School, Louisville, KY; and Loveland, Ohio. She was Assistant Professor at East Carolina University; Marshall University, WVa; and Delta State University, Mississippi. She was appointed at the Ohio Department of Education as Vocational Home Economic Supervisor for Programs and Teachers in Southwest Ohio. She served as an Associate Professor at the University of Rio Grande prior to her retirement.
Yvonne was a special person to know, secure in her faith, loyal to her friends, and strong in her love for family. She loved to laugh and was ready for any activity with family. She was a champion tennis player in college and enjoyed snow skiing as an adult. She was an avid U of L and U of K fan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul Shoemaker, her stepdaughter Cassandra Bolt, and her brothers Randal Young Bishop and Rex Bishop. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, granddaughter, great granddaughter, and extended family.
Services held Thursday, January 30th at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. Burial Will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Highlands Funeral in charge of arrangements.
