FedEx will let go of 122 employees in March when the plant permanently closes

January 27, 2025

As of March 3rd, Federal Express Corp. has said it will permanently close its Lexington facility on Mercer Road in Lexington, eliminating the jobs of 122 people.

The Memphis-based shipping and logistics company announced the closing Jan. 3 in a notice filed with Kentucky officials under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN Act. Most of those affected work as couriers. “Employees whose positions are eliminated will be provided the options to consider transfer to new locations, severance, or a leave of absence during which they may pursue other positions with FedEx,” the company said in its announcement. The company said the closing is “due to business reorganization.” In the past few months, there have been waves of announcements from FedEx about job cuts across the country, including North Carolina, Arkansas and Tennessee. Parts of Europe also have been targeted. In December, yahoo/finance published a story outlining the company’s reengineered integration of its ground express and service units. The company wants to save $6 billion by 2027 by consolidating FedEx’s delivery network with fewer routes and stations while also integrating its ground, express and services units.
