Curtis Edward Davis, age 94, married to Carolyn Sue Davis, died December 19th, 2024. He was born October 16, 1930 in Lee County, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents Verner Edward Davis and Effie Stewart Davis, brother Ola Davis, sisters Anna Lee Abner, Clara McNay, Naomi Whitaker, Winna Jean Pyle and Eunice Bates.
Curtis is survived by one son: Howard Edward Davis (Rebecca Jane) and two Grandchildren Trenton Ryan Davis and Whitney Paige Davis Calabressi (Andres) one Great Grandson Lucas Enzo Calabressi and one Great Granddaughter Mia Patricia Calabressi.
He attended Lee County Schools and Eastern Kentucky State College, now Eastern Kentucky University, later serving in the U.S. Air Force for two years before taking over his father’s farm.
He started working for the United States Post Office then accepted a position with the Petroleum Exploration, that later became Wiser Oil Company. He started his 36 year career in the oil & gas fields as a payroll clerk and then later Superintendent over many states 1971 to 1993. While superintendent, he served as President of the Kentucky Oil & Gas Association from June 1986 to June 1988.
Curtis served on the Beattyville City council for 12 years, and as deacon, secretary, and treasurer of the Beattyville Christian Church for many years. He belonged to the Beattyville Masonic Lodge, Grand Lodge of Kentucky, Oleika Shrine Temple, as well as the VFW. Curtis had the honor of being named 1993 Beattyville Citizen of the year. He served on the Rescue Squad as Secretary and Treasurer, member of the Lee County Museum committee, the Industrial Board, a Supervisor of the Conservation district, Co Chairman of the Marcum Wallace Hospital Board, vice chairman of the Lee County School Board of Education, President of Natural Bridge Association, Chairman of the Middle Kentucky Community Action Partnership as well as Chairman of the Kentucky River Area Development Association, President of the Three Forks Historical Center and 1993 Kiwanis Man of The Year. He has been active in the 101 Club UK Sports, the EKCEP and many others.
For over 60 years he has been a member of the Beattyville Kiwanis club where he has served as Treasurer four times, as the Club President, Division 9 Lt. Governor of Kentucky Tennessee, Masons, Shriner and Eastern Star. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Rose Mary C. Brooks Place and Clark County Regional ICU for all their help and support. Services held December 22nd, 2024 at Newnam Funeral Home of Beattyville. Burial; Riverview Cemetery of Old State HWY 11, Lee Co. Newnam in charge of arrangements.
