Local Actors Help Community Celebrate the Season - The Beattyville Enterprise, December 20, 2017

by Chuck Caudill

This weekend, local actors from Lee and Owsley Counties tickled the funny bone of patrons of the Arts in a Lee County Middle High School (LCMHS) production of “A 21st Century Christmas Carol.”
For those who took the time to share the holiday with this company, had ample opportunity for laughter as they brought the scripts to life.
LCMHS animated a Pioneer Drama Services script written by Lori M. Myers.
The often mimicked story of Ebenezer Scrooge received yet another twist in this 21st century update by replac¬ing the curmudgeonly old money lender with a lovely young woman running a gift shop.
Eleanor Scrooge, played with confidence by Allison Raines, is more focused on getting her business ready for the after Christmas shopping than celebrating Christmas and orders her workers back in on Christmas day.
To change her view of life, she is visited by the ghost of the old owner of her business “Marley” who is played by Tyler Greenlee. Greenlee is a very bright spot in the production as he takes control of the stage and is fearless in his creation of a character that leaves no laugh unmined.
Scrooge: then, must deal with the germaphobe Spirit of Christmas Past, played by the lovely Mia Cornett, followed by the spinning and enthusi¬astically joyous spirit of Christmas Present, Ellen Grace Jennings.
Jozzelyn Plowman brings a sinister quality to her portrayal of the spirit of Christmas Future.
Other cast members included Brystal Angel as the Narrator, Reagan Pierson, Destiny Thompson, and Aleah McIntosh as gift shop staff, Willow Tipton and Carter Begley as Happy Children, Addison Cornett and Hanna Brandenburg. The two young ladies created a touching moment as the childhood Scrooge with her older sister, while Joe Brandenburg, as Scrooge’s childhood friend, was a rock-solid character. Hally Land, Alyssa Bray, Emily Bishop, and Conner Williams turned in giggling performances as the Cratchitt Family with Chris Jewell finding some touching moments with his interpretation of Bob Cratchitt.
This was only one of many holiday programs around the community. They reflect quality work
